The 170-carat stone from the Lulo alluvial mine has been named the “Lulo Rose.”

A rare pink diamond mined in Angola which may be the largest in the last 300 years, according to Australian mining firm Lucapa Diamond Co.

The 170-carat stone from the Lulo alluvial mine has been named the “Lulo Rose,” the company and its partners said in an exchange filing on Wednesday.

The Angolan government, which is also a partner in the mine, welcomed the find.

"This spectacular pink diamond recovered from Lulo continues to showcase Angola as an important player on the world stage," Angola's Mineral Resources Minister Diamantino Azevedo said.

It will be sold through an international tender conducted by Angolan state-owned diamond trading firm Sodiam.

Coloured diamonds are rarer than colourless ones and have fetched record-breaking prices. The De Beers’ Cullinan blue diamond, for instance, was auctioned for about $57.5 million at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong in April.
