Watch: PM leads political leaders cutting across party lines to pay homage to Dr. Ambedkar

The role and importance of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar in Indian democracy can never be forgotten as he played a vital role as the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee from August 29, 1947 to January 24, 1950.

It was under his guidance and stewardship the bedrock of Indian democracy was prepared and it has steered India for decades as the country celebrates 75 years of Independence.

Leading the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. He was born on April 14 in 1891 in the town and military cantonment of Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, which is now known as Dr. Ambedkar Nagar.

The President, Droupadi Murmu while extending her greetings on the leader’s birth anniversary described him as “a symbol of knowledge and prodigy, Dr. Ambedkar worked untiringly, even in adverse circumstances, as an educationist, legal expert, economist, politician and social reformer and spread knowledge for the welfare of the nation. His basic mantra- Educate, Organize & struggle to bring the deprived community into the mainstream of society, will always remain relevant.”

Among the other leaders who paid their tributes to the social reformer, jurist, and economist were former President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
