Parents put son in chains in Punjab village to prevent him from buying drugs

23-year-old man from a village in the Moga district of Punjab who has been chained to a cot and confined to a room by his parents in order to prevent him from going out and buying drugs.

A dramatic video has surfaced in Punjab of a young man who has been chained to a cot and confined to a room by his parents in order to prevent him from going out and buying drugs.

“He would splurge up to Rs 800 every day to take drugs. He has been addicted to drugs for the last five to six years,” his mother said.

The 23-year-old from a village in the Moga district of Punjab was a daily wage worker. His mother said that after spending his entire earnings on drugs he had started stealing items from the house which he would sell to buy drugs.

He also resorted to bouts of violence against his parents when they refused to give him money to buy drugs.

He is now being treated for his addiction and has been chained for the last 8 days.

The mother lamented that drugs were easily available within their village and appealed to the government to take strict action to stop the menace.

Punjab has been facing a drug problem in recent years and Pakistan has been fanning the flames in India’s crucial border state by sending narcotics across the border. This is reflected in the several seizures made by the BSF.

There have also been instances of drugs being delivered through drones from across the border which can only happen with the connivance of Pakistani authorities, according to senior officials.
