As many as 66 students of a medical college have tested positive for COVID-19 at Dharwad in Karnataka, officials said on Thursday.

The students of SDM College of Medical Sciences, all of whom were fully vaccinated, were found infected after 300 them were administered Covid tests following an event organised in the college.

The infected students have been quarantined, deputy commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil said. They will now undergo treatment inside the hostel.

The two hostels at the college have been sealed as a precautionary measure on the orders of the district health officer and deputy commissioner. Physical classes have been suspended in the college.

The college has 400 students and the remaining 100 students will also be tested for COVID-19.

The students are not being allowed to go outside for fear of spreading the infection and those who are awaiting tests will also be quarantined in the same premises, Patil said.
