India has reported 94,052 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours with two-thirds of them coming from the five worst-hit states. according to data compiled by the Union Health Ministry till Thursday morning.
The country has recorded less than 1 lakh daily new cases for three continuous days now, indicating that the Covid-19 wave is receding in the country.
Overall, five states with the biggest 24-hour jump in total cases are : Tamil Nadu (18023), Kerala (15567), Maharashtra (10891), Karnataka (9808), and Andhra Pradesh (7796). The total for these five states works out to 61,485 cases or 65.4 per cent of the total.
India has been witnessing a continuous fall in the active caseload.The country’s active caseload now stands at 11,67,952. The caseload has stayed below 20 lakhs for ten successive days.
A net decline of 63,463 was witnessed in the last 24 hours as India’s daily recoveries from Covid-19 continue to outnumber the daily new cases for the 28th consecutive day. As many as 1,51,367 coronavirus patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours.
With substantially ramped up testing capacity across the country, atotal of 20,04,690 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in the country.
While on one side testing has been enhanced across the country, a continued decline has been recorded in the number of weekly case positivity rate. The weekly positivity rate is currently at 5.43% while the daily positivity rate stands at 4.69% for Wednesday. It has remained less than 10% for 17 consecutive days now which is a sign that the Covid-19 wave is retreating.
Vaccination drive covers 24 cr people
The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has exceeded 24 crore on Wednesday under the nationwide vaccination drive. 33,79,261 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said.
A total of 24,27,26,693 vaccine doses have been administered through 33,82,775 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Thursday.
