Indian coach Rahul Dravid has praised skipper Rohit Sharma for showing “phenomenal” courage and trying his best to get the team get over the line despite battling injury in the second one-dayer against Bangladesh in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Rohit suffered a blow to his thumb while fielding during the Bangladesh innings and went for scans in a local hospital.

However, as India was struggling in their run chase, the skipper walked in to bat at No. 9 and scored an unbeaten 51 off 28 balls to get Team India close to the target.

Even though India lost the match by just five runs, and also the ODI series, Rohit’s effort was lauded by his teammates and coach.

“He had to go to the hospital. There was a serious dislocation in his hand. He had to get it set at the hospital, take a couple of injections and then get back to the field. Credit to him, he was very determined to have a go out and take a chance. It was amazing how close he got us,” Dravid said during the post-match press conference.

The Indian skipper will return to Mumbai to consult a specialist and will most likely also miss the forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
