India women handed Australia their first defeat of the year across all formats as they romped home in a thrilling Super Over finish at the DY Patil Stadium Navi Mumbai on Sunday night to level the five-game T20 series at one-all.

Batting first, Australia made 187 for the loss of just one wicket from their 20 overs with both Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath scoring unbeaten half-centuries.

Smriti Mandhana then scored a quickfire 79 off 49 balls as Richa Ghosh (26 not out off 13) hit a four off the last delivery to level the scores.

The 45,000-plus strong crowd was then treated to a thrilling Super Over, with the hosts scoring 20 runs off Heather Graham.

India’s Renuka Thakur bowled brilliantly as Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner and Tahlia McGrath managed just 16 runs.

The final three T20Is will now be played at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium.
