Mangaluru policeman, Varun Alva, nabbed the mobile thief following a fast-paced chase on the streets

A Mangaluru city cop, Varun Alva, created a storm on social media, as his dramatic chase and nabbing of a mobile phone thief went viral.

The incident took place on Wednesday but it hit the limelight when the video of this dramatic chase was uploaded and went viral. Many viewers found the fast-paced chase similar to what is seen in movies.

Police sources said that a granite worker Prem Narayan Yogi who hails from Rajasthan was resting near Nehru Maidan when 32-year-old Harish Poojary snatched the mobile from him and ran. Hearing his cries for help, people started chasing Poojary. A police team at the spot which included Assistant Sub-Inspector, Varun Alva, started pursuing Poojary.

Alva as seen in the video, nabbed him even as other members of the gang were trying to create diversion, according to the police. Meanwhile, Alva’s colleagues apprehended the second accused, 20-year-old Shamanth, while the third, Rajesh, managed to escape.

The Mangaluru City Police Commissioner announced a cash reward of Rs.10,000 for Alva and felicitated him.

Investigations revealed that the accused had been operating in the city and was involved in several thefts and robberies.
