Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, the director of The Kashmir Files has been granted Y-category security even as the film broke another box office record by grossing over Rs 100 crore in the first week of its release.

The security cover has been provided to the director based on the perception of the threat he faces after the film’s release. The CRPF security will accompany the director across India.

Under the Y-category security, Agnihotri will be provided with a security cover of eight officers, which is likely to have two commandos and police personnel.

The low-budget film has also got embroiled in a political debate. Supporters of the movie, set during the violent upheaval of 1989-90 and the present day, say it highlights an ignored chapter of Kashmir’s history. However, critics say it fans anti-Muslim sentiment.

The film also got Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval as he pointed out in a speech that an “entire ecosystem was trying to sabotage and discredit a film that is telling the truth.”

Anupam Kher, who plays the role of Pushkarnath Pandit, in The Kashmir Files shared the news that the film has crossed the Rs 100 crore-mark in the first week after release.
