Kerala’s tourist hotspot Adavi now offers bowl boating thrill

Bowl boating or coracle rafting is a added attraction for tourists in Adavi, Kerala

The picturesque tourist destination of Adavi in Konni, Kerala on the banks of Kallar river offers several attractive options for the tourists to enjoy their stay there. Among these are jungle safari, trekking, staying on a treetop and a walk through the woods. 

Now Adavi Eco-Tourism Project, the collaborative initiative between Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department and Kerala Tourism Development Corporation offers visitors the thrills of an adventure sport called coracle rafting or bowl boating.

In this a group of four to five sit in a bowl-like bamboo raft and row through Kallar river. Rides in these bowls start from 8.30 a.m. and go on till 5.30 p.m. Visitors can choose a short route through the peaceful and serene waters for about half an hour or opt for an adventurous route which runs two kilometres.

Apart from this there is a white water rafting available for which tickets are sold at the Konni Eco-Tourism Centre.

Those who prefer a quiet walk on their own or in company one can hit the trail and enjoy hidden pools full of pure and clean water. Trekking is also available which provides glimpses of breath-taking scenic spots and dams.

The Project has made available a facility for jungle safari which is a full-day programme and includes lunch and camping. Those wanting to enjoy nature at night can stay in a tree house or bamboo huts on the river bank, where locally prepared food is provided.
