82-year-old former Kerala MLA makes India proud by winning two medals at World Masters Athletics meet

Agile and fit! Former MLA of Kerala Assembly M.J. Jacob won two medals at the World Masters Athletics Championship held in Finland

Proving that age is just a number, the 82-year-old former MLA of Kerala Assembly M.J. Jacob has won two medals at the World Masters Athletics Championship 2022 making India and Kerala proud.

The former Piravom MLA won the two medals for India in the championship which was held in Tampere, Finland. He won bronze medals in the 200 metres hurdles and 80 metres hurdles competition in the category meant for those aged between 80 and 84.

Talking to the media, Jacob said he was thrilled to win medals for India and that he is planning to take part in more such events. He told New Indian Express: “I have served my country as a politician and now as a sportsman. I am thrilled and will participate in more events in the future. Since my childhood, I have always been interested in sports. I started participating in international athletic events in 2006 and have won many medals.”

Jacob felt that with some more training and practice he can beat the Europeans and do better.  Last year he won three gold medals in the Kerala State Masters athletic meet – in 80m hurdles, 200m hurdles and long jump.

He has also won medals in Asia Masters Athletics and other world meets.
